Call of Duty 1 changed the way first-person shooters are seen by letting players experience World War II through the eyes of a squad in the middle of the chaotic battle. The weapon design is very simple and strong, and one has to iron-sight aim for precision. At the same time, the sharp crack of a Kar98k or the suddenly loud Thompson conveys an authentic era of the weapon. Operations are very vivid, defiant moments where you are left to defend yourself against the dreadful enemy forces and other times when you are the ones who are sacrificing your selves by going the enemy lines, usually, the story of the global conflict is multi-layered and told through the eyes of the Americans, the British, and the Soviet by changing a lot the perspectives around them.

This fusion of cinematic direction, squad-based immersion, and unforgiving difficulty established a new benchmark for historical shooters, making every bullet, every charge, and every fallen comrade feel like a chapter in a harrowing, unforgettable war story.
