Game Overview
GTA: Vice City took an open-world crime saga to the next level by adding to its sun-drenched, 80s-soaked sandbox a cinematic narrative of ambition and betrayal, with gameplay that is a perfect blend of crazed driving, adrenaline-fueled third-person combat, and empire-building strategy. As Tommy Vercetti, you explore a neon-lit city and pastel beaches - a fictional Miami. You hijack a very lively assortment of period-specific vehicles - from sleek sports cars to agile speedboats - to engage in high-speed chases, execute drive-by shootings, and escape the police who keep getting stronger through a now-iconic "Wanted Level" system.

On top of the story's mission-driven chaos, the city is full of side activities that bring out its character: You can take a taxi, fight rival gangs in territorial "Rampages," fly a helicopter for the news station, or simply relax at the Malibu Club, all while a legendary soundtrack from era-defining radio stations sets the scene for your adventures. What a) allowed a player to acquire property, b) was transformative, c) made a drastic difference in the player's power to rule an empire, was a game mechanic that gave players the ability to buy stuff and thereby turn the players from hired guns into kingpins. You figure out that you can buy a boatyard, film studio, etc., as a way to make money and get new storylines. In that way, you reach your business goals while also getting the Vice City criminal underworld completely under your control.
