Game Overview
Far Cry 2: Fortune’s Edition is a harsh, immersive open-world first-person shooter set in a war-ravaged African savanna, where you control a mercenary caught between two opposing factions. The main gameplay cycle is based on "dynamic conflict", meaning that you have to carry out the game's missions for leaders, sabotage operations, at the same time looting, repairing your health, managing the degradation of your weapon, and infiltrating stealthily, all within a world that responds to you, where alliances change.

The combat results of your actions have lasting effects. The "fire system" lets you read wildfires in real time and use them as a weapon. The "malaria mechanic" causes your health to move, forcing you to go and obtain medication. The "buddy system" lets you form friendships with other mercenaries, who can then revive you during combat.
