Aviassembly reshapes the puzzle and management genre by letting players be the mastermind of a sky aviary - a huge and bustling bird sanctuary in the clouds. The game is an intricate mix of ecological engineering, spatial logic, and resource flow management to keep the ecosystem of fantastic birds thriving. The main gameplay focuses on building complex, multi-level bird habitats from modular platforms, perches, water sources, and plants in 3D space, following the nesting, feeding, and social needs of twenty or more species of birds generated procedurally—the birds differ in habits, migration routes, and symbiotic relationships.
Players have to keep solving balancing puzzles: they need to make their trees absorb sunlight and rain to grow the right kinds of flowers, which in turn attract certain insects, and the insects feed certain birds, while at the same time managing a fragile energy network powered by wind turbines and crystal generators to keep operating the automated feeders and climate equipment. This overarching management is broken up by small-scale control features when, for example, a player has to take care of a lost fledgling, or they have to play mini healing games with a set of naturalistic tools on injured birds.
The journey is scaled up from creating the first safe treehouse spot to coordinating an enormous, sky-garden of mutually supporting species. Success is determined by the biodiversity of the garden and the awe-inspiring sight of a real vertical ecosystem flying off into the sky that the player has designed from scratch.
