GTA III: The Definitive Edition is a complete remake of a revolutionary open-world crime game that defined a generation, was a huge success, and is now back in the spotlight. The definitive version retains the legendary silent protagonist narrative of Claude's ascent of the criminal underworld, now accompanied with a completely redone high-resolution texture, far longer draw distances, and the re-creation of the lighting that gives the rain-slicked streets of neon and the deep shadow atmosphere.

The primary gameplay trio of carjacking, third-person shooting, and insane running around are still the main elements. Still, they have changed with many improvements: the old game's annoying lock-on mechanic is now replaced by a new GTA V-inspired targeting and weapon wheel system that allows driving execution and weapon changes during fight scenarios to be done very smoothly. Accuracy in some sections for platforming, which was one of the biggest customer complaints, has now become realizable with rearranged checkpoint locations and better character controls, plus the radios still carry a very strong soundtrack of that era, with the talking, music, and it is now of higher audio quality.
