GTA: Vice City - The Definitive Edition brings back the neon-drenched, drug-fueled crime story of Tommy Vercetti with very careful modernization that manages to keep the original soul of the period-perfect character intact while radically changing the old mechanics to suit the era of gamers. Gameplay features the famous open-world sandbox of sun-drenched beaches and art-deco skyscrapers, which, now, are visually supported by entirely new, high-resolution assets and longer draw distances that make Vice City seem bigger and more absorbing than ever before.

The main cycle of car jacking/mobilizing reaction-mission/ buying property still exists. Still, the Definitive Edition changes/ improvements are so good, that the player hardly realizes them: a completely modernized, GTA V-inspired targeting and weapon wheel system replaces the old, clumsy one and allows the first to perform drive-by executions and switch weapons effortlessly, while at the same time, a perfectly controlled movement on treacherous cliff ledges has been made possible by placing the new checkpoints in better spots and by making the character more responsive.

The radio is still filled with the genre-defining synth-pop and hair metal music of the time. Still, now it has the enhanced audio quality and the option to play custom songs. At the same time, the map screen has been smartly redesigned to allow for quicker route planning. This ultimate pastel paradise throwback does not change its source at all but instead buffs it to such a high level that even every street-level cinematic execution, every reckless speedboat chase through the canals, every purchase of the Malibu Club now feels as fresh and real as if the players themselves had lived these moments.
