Game Overview
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight offers players the opportunity to build, fight, and explore a LEGO Gotham City. Classic LEGO humor, gadget-based puzzle-solving, and a wide range of villains are brought together to make a fun and action-packed family adventure. The main "suit-switching" game mechanic is that Batman and Robin can swap their special costumes at any time (for example, Batman's Sonic Suit is used for breaking glass, Robin's Magnet Suit for climbing metal walls, or the Sensor Suit for finding hidden platforms). Each suit offers new movement and fighting abilities.
The fighting system is the traditional LEGO type: melee combos, throwing Batarangs, and using the environment, such as exploding LEGO objects or dropping chandeliers on enemies. A "villain progression" feature keeps a record of your fights against Gotham's top criminals (Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Two-Face, and Harley Quinn), each criminal having a boss arena that requires different suit combinations and solving environment puzzles for the win.

There are five open-world districts to explore (the Rain-Slicked Docks, the Abandoned Amusement Park, the Gotham Cathedral, the Batcave, and Arkham Asylum). Each of these locations offers collectible "Minikit" parts, "Gold Brick" puzzles, and "Character Tokens" that unlock over 80 heroes and villains for play.
The "Batcomputer" base allows you to replay missions, buy "Red Brick" cheats (stud multipliers, invincibility, or attract studs), and see concept artworks. "Riddle challenges" make a comeback, but with a twist: Nine trophies are behind physics-based devices requiring precise team play (co-op) to operate, such as launching a grappling hook from one side while the other player is on a pressure plate.

Multiplayer "dynamic duo" mode supports local drop-in/out co-op, giving each player the freedom to choose their character and suit independently. Besides that, the game features a "vehicle garage" with buildable Batmobile and Batwing models, which are utilized for chase segments in Gotham's aerial spaces. With no permadeath, only the loss of studs upon respawn, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight pays a playful, brick-strewn tribute to the Dark Knight.
